What is Antiracist?
Definition
Anti-racism refers to beliefs, actions, and practices that challenge and oppose everyday racism. Anti-racist approaches require the recognition of the pervasiveness of racism throughout society, within institutions and in our consciousness in ways we are not always aware of. Being anti-racist requires critical self-reflection and an explicit commitment to countering racism.
Gender-transformative education centers anti-racist curriculum & pedagogy. It encourages individuals to grapple with the histories of and ongoing racial violence and calls on them to challenge the racism they encounter or are complicit with in their everyday lives, from within everyday mundane interactions to broader levels of social and political anti-racist mobilization.
