Towards Gender Equality: The GEMS Journey So Far, contains the main findings of a study of the Gender Equity Movement in Schools (GEMS) programme in Jharkhand State, India. To better understand the impact of the programme on girls’ and boys’ views of gender equity and violence and to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme, the International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) interviewed more than 3,000 boys and girls from the 80 schools in which the programme was implemented. In-depth surveys were also conducted with 60 students from the intervention and comparison schools and with teachers and principals.
