CSW67 Expert Roundtable: Closing the gender digital learning divide
Malala Fund warmly invites you to our CSW67 expert roundtable: Closing the gender digital learning divide (Wednesday 8th March, 10-11:30am EST)
The sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) provides a critical opportunity to identify priority actions for governments and world leaders to close the gender digital learning divide. In doing so, they can catalyse progress in girls’ education, inclusive digital learning and closing the gender digital divide.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the accelerated and unplanned shift to emergency remote learning — often reliant on digital technology — highlighted the importance and opportunity of digital to learners, teachers and education systems. Yet the use of digital learning failed to respond to proven patterns of inequality in education, multiplying education barriers for adolescent girls and widening the gender digital learning divide.
As evidence of these phenomena continues to grow, policy-makers and practitioners are beginning to give greater attention to inclusive digital learning — the equitable, sustained and safe access to quality learning via digital devices. Notable developments are evident in international law, TES outcomes and preparations for the Global Digital Compact.
This hybrid roundtable will bring together global policy leads with Malala Fund activist partners to unpack both the opportunity of genuinely inclusive digital learning for all adolescent girls as well as the persistent and underlying challenges that undermine progress.
Building on Malala Fund’s policy brief — Closing the gender digital learning divide: How policymakers can address gender-based inequality in digital learning strategies for girls (https://bit.ly/3KIaTEG) — roundtable participants will also identify priority actions that governments and world leaders must take.
Attendees for the hybrid roundtable will only be able to join via zoom and will be able to ask questions during the event.
