Norway contributes US$4 million to UNESCO education activities
21-01-2008 - Norway is to support UNESCO education activities in 2008 and 2009 to the tune of over US$4 million, under a cooperation agreement signed on 21 January.
The Capacity-Building for Education for All Programme and the Education for All Global Monitoring Report are the main beneficiaries of this support.
An annual NOK 20.5 million (USD 3,740,875) will support the multi-donor Capacity-Building for Education for All Programme, which focuses on literacy and teacher education - two of UNESCO’s core initiatives - at country level.
Norway will also contribute NOK 3 million (USD 547,445) annually to the Education for All Global Monitoring Report.
This support for education is in line with the new extra-budgetary strategy of UNESCO’s Education Sector,
